The richly decorated church<br \/>\n fa&ccedil;ades are of special interest as they represent an example<br \/>\n of the joint creative efforts of the missionaries and the Indios. <\/li>\n<li> <b>Wooden Churches of Southern Little Poland, Poland:<\/b> The churches<br \/>\n represent outstanding examples of the different aspects of medieval<br \/>\n church-building traditions in Roman Catholic culture. <\/li>\n<li> <b>Citadel, Ancient City and Fortress Buildings of Derbent, Russian<br \/>\n Federation:<\/b> Part of the northern limits of the Sassanian Persian<br \/>\n Empire, which extended east and west of the Caspian Sea. The town of<br \/>\n Derbent has retained part of its medieval fabric. <\/li>\n<li> <b>Mapungubwe Cultural Landscape, South Africa:<\/b> An open, expansive<br \/>\n savannah landscape situated on the northern border of South Africa joining<br \/>\n Zimbabwe and Botswana. Mapungubwe developed into the largest kingdom<br \/>\n in the sub-continent before it was abandoned in the 14th Century. The<br \/>\n almost untouched remains of the palace sites, a settlement area and<br \/>\n two earlier capital sites survive. <\/li>\n<li> <b>Ubeda-Baeza: Urban duality, cultural unity, Spain:<\/b> The urban<br \/>\n morphology of the two small cities of Ubeda and Baeza in southern Spain<br \/>\n dates back to the Moorish 9th Century and to the Reconquista in the<br \/>\n 13th Century. In the 16th Century, the cities were renovated along the<br \/>\n lines of the emerging Renaissance. <\/li>\n<li> <b>Gebel Barkal and the Sites of the Napatan Region, Sudan:<\/b> Includes<br \/>\n several archaeological sites, over more than 60 km (37 miles) in the<br \/>\n Nile Valley, of the Napatan (900 to 270 BC) and Meroitic (270 BC to<br \/>\n 350 AD) cultures, of the second kingdom of Kush. Tombs, with and without<br \/>\n pyramids, temples, living complexes and palaces are also found on the<br \/>\n site. <\/li>\n<li> <b>Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, United Kingdom:<\/b> The historic landscape<br \/>\n garden illustrates the art of gardens from the 18th to the 20th Centuries.<br \/>\n The gardens house botanic collections (conserved plants, living plants<br \/>\n and documents) that have been considerably enriched through the centuries.\n <\/li>\n<li> <b>Matobo Hills, Zimbabwe:<\/b> Distinctive rock land forms associated<br \/>\n with human occupation from the early Stone Age to early historical times,<br \/>\n and intermittently since. They also feature an outstanding collection<br \/>\n of rock paintings. <\/li>\n<li> <b>Central Amazon Conservation Complex, Brazil:<\/b> Comprises the<br \/>\n largest protected area in the Amazon Basin and one of the planet&#039;s<br \/>\n richest regions in terms of biodiversity. <\/li>\n<li> <b>Imperial Tombs of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, China:<\/b> These<br \/>\n tombs were inscribed on the World Heritage List in 2000. The property<br \/>\n inscribed this year as an extension consists of two distinct burial<br \/>\n sites of the Ming Dynasty emperors. Xiaoling, the first emperor of that<br \/>\n dynasty is buried there, as are 13 others. <\/li>\n<li> <b>Archaeological Site of Panama Viejo and the Historic District<br \/>\n of Panama, Panama:<\/b> Panama Viejo covers the location and ruins of<br \/>\n the first European settlement on the American mainland and pre-Hispanic<br \/>\n remains. It features impressive ruins.
