{"id":1772,"date":"2005-08-27T22:00:00","date_gmt":"2005-08-27T22:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/globetrotters.co.uk\/newsletter\/2005\/08\/27\/being-careful-uganda\/"},"modified":"2023-12-10T12:47:15","modified_gmt":"2023-12-10T12:47:15","slug":"being-careful-uganda","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/globetrotters.co.uk\/newsletter\/being-careful-uganda.html","title":{"rendered":"Being\n Careful: Uganda"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/foreign-commonwealth-office\">British Foreign and<br \/>\n Commonwealth Office<\/a> advise against all travel to<br \/>\n Uganda.&#160; This is what they have to say:\n <\/p>\n<p>\n We advise against all travel to northern and north eastern Uganda<br \/>\n because of rebel insurgency and tribal clashes.&#160; In July<br \/>\n 2005, there was an armed attack on a vehicle in the northern part<br \/>\n of the Murchison Falls National Park. We strongly advise people<br \/>\n not to visit this park.\n <\/p>\n<p>\n There have been no incidents in Mgahinga National Park and those<br \/>\n parts of Kisoro District that border the Democratic Republic of<br \/>\n Congo (DRC) since early December 2004, but we advise travellers<br \/>\n to this region to continue to check our Travel Advice regularly.\n <\/p>\n<p>\n Most visits to Uganda are safe. Kampala is a relatively safe<br \/>\n city. By day you can walk the streets and visit local markets.<br \/>\n But opportunistic crime such as burglaries, muggings and drive-by<br \/>\n bag snatches is on the increase in Kampala. We strongly recommend<br \/>\n that after dark, you avoid going out on foot. Do not make<br \/>\n yourself an obvious target for muggers and pickpockets. Do not<br \/>\n carry large sums of cash in the streets or wear expensive looking<br \/>\n jewellery or watches.\n <\/p>\n<p>\n In urban areas keep car doors locked and windows shut at all<br \/>\n times. There have recently been a number of thefts of personal<br \/>\n property from cars and taxis while stationary in traffic. If<br \/>\n stopped by armed men, do not attempt to resist.
