The Thar Desert tells a story of men living in<br \/>\n harmony with a hostile nature.&#160; It is not deserted but<br \/>\n contains a complete philosophy to live with the nature.&#160;<br \/>\n Ranthambore presents an opportunity for viewing wild life as<br \/>\n you can experience the first hand the habitat of the king of<br \/>\n the forest the tiger.&#160; The following &#8216;tour&#8217; is in two<br \/>\n parts but shows how you can easily explore parts of<br \/>\n Rajasthan.\n <\/p>\n<h4>\n JAIPUR<br \/>\n <\/h4>\n<p>\n <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/\/globetrotters.co.uk\/newsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/pictures\/enews-11-04-rajasthan10.jpg\" width=\"200\" height=\"143\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" align=\"left\" class='pic' \/>Jaipur, popularly known as the Pink City, was<br \/>\n founded in 1727 AD by the Maharaja of Amber Sawai Jai Singh.<br \/>\n This remarkable city is considered a marvel of town planning.<br \/>\n &#160;Designed in accordance with ancient Hindu treaties on<br \/>\n architecture, the Silpa Shastra, Jaipur follows a grid system<br \/>\n and is encircled by a fortified wall. &#160;The palace lies<br \/>\n in the heart of the city and occupies the space of the<br \/>\n central grid. The rest of the grids were cut across neatly by<br \/>\n wide lanes, which divided the area into tidy, well laid-out<br \/>\n rectangles of commercial and residential use. The fortified<br \/>\n wall has eight gates (originally had seven) and was built for<br \/>\n protection against invading armies and wild animals. Today<br \/>\n the city has spread beyond these walls and reached<br \/>\n neighbouring towns and continues to grow.\n <\/p>\n<h4>\n CITY PALACE<br \/>\n <\/h4>\n<p>\n The city Palace complex is the most important landmark with<br \/>\n its numerous outbuildings, courtyards, impressive gateways<br \/>\n and temples. &#160;Occupying one seventh of the walled city<br \/>\n area, the city palace houses the seven storied Chandra Mahal<br \/>\n (residence of the royal family), Mubarak Mahal, the<br \/>\n Diwan-I-Am, and Diwan-I-Khas. The museum houses a rare<br \/>\n collection of arms, carpets, costumes, paintings and royal<br \/>\n paraphernalia. A notable exhibit is a pair of pure silver<br \/>\n containers, which are the largest single pieces of silver in<br \/>\n the world.\n <\/p>\n<p>\n Across the road from the palace is the JANTAR MANTAR, one of<br \/>\n the five observatories built by Sawai Jai Singh, this one is<br \/>\n the latest and the best preserved. A collection of complex<br \/>\n astronomical instruments chiselled out of stone &#8211; most of<br \/>\n which continue to provide fairly accurate information to this<br \/>\n day &#8211; is the highlight of the observatory.\n <\/p>\n<h4>\n HAWA MAHAL (PALACE OF WINDS)<br \/>\n <\/h4>\n<p>\n This adjoins the outside of the palace wall. &#160;Built in<br \/>\n 1799 this pink seven storied building overlooks one of the<br \/>\n main streets and also provides some excellent views of the<br \/>\n city. &#160;Dedicated to the lord Krishna, it is shaped like<br \/>\n a crown, which adorns the Lord&#8217;s head. &#160;It has over 900<br \/>\n niches and is quite an unusual structure the likes of which<br \/>\n are not to be found anywhere else in the world.\n <\/p>\n<h4>\n AMBER FORT<br \/>\n <\/h4>\n<p>\n Set in a picturesque location, Amber is a fascinating blend<br \/>\n of Hindu and Muslim architecture. &#160;Built in the 16th<br \/>\n century by Raja Man Singh, it sprawls on the hillside.<br \/>\n &#160;Built in red sandstone and white marble, the palace<br \/>\n complex has some very interesting apartments, the likes of<br \/>\n which are not to be found anywhere else in the country.<br \/>\n &#160;Jai Mandir, Sheesh Mahal, Sukh Niwas, Ganesh Pol are<br \/>\n some of the prominent areas of interest. &#160;The old<br \/>\n township of Amber lies at the foothills of the palace and has<br \/>\n an Old World charm, a character of its own.\n <\/p>\n<h4>\n PUSHKAR FAIR (November)<br \/>\n <\/h4>\n<p>\n <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/\/globetrotters.co.uk\/newsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/pictures\/enews-11-04-rajasthan4.jpg\" width=\"200\" height=\"102\" alt=\"\" class=\"pic\" border=\"0\" align=\"left\" \/>Held at Pushkar near Ajmer once in a year,<br \/>\n better known by the name of Pushkar Cattle Fair, is one of<br \/>\n the most colourful festivals of India. Thousands of pilgrims<br \/>\n come to bathe in the holy water of the Pushkar Lake. Legend<br \/>\n has it that the lake appeared miraculously on the spot, where<br \/>\n the petals of the lotus fell from the hands of lord Brahma.<br \/>\n Pushkar has an atmosphere of an ancient town, peaceful and<br \/>\n secluded but for twelve days of the month of KARTIK (Hindu<br \/>\n calendar), it transformed into a spectacular fair ground.<br \/>\n &#160;The fair is an amazing sight to behold including street<br \/>\n sellers showing off their dazzling range of wares in hundreds<br \/>\n of roadside stalls.\n <\/p>\n<h4>\n RELIGIOUS ACTIVITIES<br \/>\n <\/h4>\n<p>\n <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/\/globetrotters.co.uk\/newsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/pictures\/enews-11-04-rajasthan9.jpg\" width=\"200\" height=\"108\" alt=\"\" class=\"pic\" border=\"0\" align=\"right\" \/>People come from different parts of<br \/>\n Rajasthan to worship lord Brahma and take bath in the holy<br \/>\n lake. &#160;Pilgrims start coming in the early morning in<br \/>\n groups singing the religious songs dedicated to Hindu gods to<br \/>\n bathe in the Pushkar lake. The process continues throughout<br \/>\n the day to turn into DEEPDAN ceremony. &#160;The entire<br \/>\n atmosphere reverberates with the ringing of bells. &#160;At<br \/>\n night, hundreds of small oil lamps placed on green leaves set<br \/>\n the lake alight. &#160;Shopkeepers keeps their shops open day<br \/>\n and night for the last three or four days to keep the city<br \/>\n alive.\n <\/p>\n<h4>\n CAMELS AND CATTLE<br \/>\n <\/h4>\n<p>\n Worlds largest number of camel gathering is a spectacular<br \/>\n seen that floods this area with thousands of tourist every<br \/>\n year. The most spectacular site besides the animals is the<br \/>\n day to day activity of the people who comes with the animals<br \/>\n and spend the day and night under open sky.
