London Meetings, Saturday October 3, 2015

Speaking this month we have:

  1. Denise Heywood – Legend and Lustre: Jim Thompson and Thai Silk.
  2. Two Mini talks of 15-20 minutes.
    • Marion Bull – Devil’s Island.
    • Basia Filzek – Mongolia.

Our original speakers unfortunately had to cancel, we are currently updating the programme.

London branch meetings are held at The Church of Scotland, Crown Court, behind the Fortune Theatre in Covent Garden the first Saturday of each month, unless there is a UK public holiday that weekend.

Admission costs, £3 for Members and £6.00 Non-members. You do not need to be a member to attend, and we do not sell advanced tickets, please just come on the day, the doors open at 2:15pm and the program starts around 2:30pm with each talk lasting approximately 40 minutes.

There is no London meeting in August, but we start afresh each September.

  1. Dear Globetrotters,

Please accept my sincerest apologies for letting you down but as happens in life, and when we travel, things don’t always turn out as planned. Due to circumstances beyond my control, I have currently got no speakers available for Saturday. All my ‘reserves’ are either travelling, not available, not ready or unwell. So, in the spirit of the amazing club that we are, I am hoping that *YOU* can help out.

*Do you have a talk? Long or short?*

Time is of the essence so please let myself or Paul Roberts know ASAP and I will do my best to co-ordinate your submissions.

Speaking means free entry, a free guest and a small token of
    appreciation.

I hope to hear from you soon and I’m sure you will be pleased to know the next six months are almost fully booked with speakers.

    With hopeful heart,

    Jacqui Trotter

  2. Despite what Jacqui wrote, those who filled the gaps were well worth coming from Bournemouth to London for.

My wife Joyce bought a lovely blue Thai silk suit when we were in the country a few years back. Did Jim Thompson deliberately disappear, rather than being bumped off for his CIA activities? Or was it even suicide?

Re Devil’s Island – include me out. As for Mongolia, in a corner of the lounge is a two feet high at his ears Mongolian horse in some sort of clay and crudely painted. Joyce got him with the base broken from a shop selling oriental objects in Kensington and stuck him together again! We named him Yang.
