Q.Why is it worth joining the club as an independent female traveller on a budget?

A.Joining the club allows you to contact other members who have travelled recently to areas you are interested in and also as the emphasis of the club is on travel by independent means, i.e. getting there on your own without the aid of a tour or a travel agent (except to buy a plane ticket), you are sure to find a wealth of advice experience and inspiration from other members both male and female

Q.A few years ago when I was a member, members received a list of other members only from the same area. For example I received only List 4 — USA, Canada, Latin America & The Caribbean. Is this still true or is there a single consolidated list of members which goes out to all members?

A.Yes, There is now a single consolidated list of members this goes out to all members annually.

Q.What are your criteria for membership?

A.We don’t have any criteria anyone can join as long as they pay the membership fee. Some travel clubs require that members spend a minimum period travelling, etc, we do not.

Q.What are the aims of your Club?

A.Our only aim is to encourage people to travel and see new things.

A.By joining the club you gain access to the firsthand experiences of other members, wherever you are planing to visit you can bet that a Globetrotter got there first. A wealth of information is available from other members, places to avoid, must go places, scams, the best places to stay

Q.I’d like information on the services and events you offer to travellers .

A.Local group meetings are currently held in London, UK, Toronto, Canada and New York & Texas USA. Interest has been shown in forming other local groups but to date nothing has come of it. The club is a means of linking together like minded travellers and the membership directory provides access to other members expertise around the world.

Q.Club activities in Madrid/Spain if any possibility of forming a group here.

A.There are no meetings in Spain at present. If you are interested in organising something please let us know and we will give all the help we can.

Q.Do you have mature people or mostly young members?

A.The age range is fairly mixed.

Q.Where are members located? Is the club suitable for people in their 50s and 60s?

A.Members are located in over 40 countries and are of all ages. Some have done lots of travelling, some are just starting out, age is no determination on which applies.

Q.What kind of people are members?

A.Young to old, interesting to boring, Depends on your point of view.

Q.Things tourist books don’t tell you also if some places precautions should be taken for women and things like that. the behind the scenes of foreign travel is what I would like to know about from people who have been to these places

Q.I am planning a trip to South America (for 6 months) and I am seeking for travel information (like cheap flights, nice hostels etc.)

A.Other club members are the best source of information, there is!

Q.I am looking for a travel companion

A.As a member you can place a free ad in globe and also arrange to stay/meet other members when you are travelling.

Q.Whilst I haven’t visited all the sites how about a notice-board where people can post up and coming travels or a travellers chat room

Q.I would like to know if any restrictions are place on membership. Do people have to have an interview before the volunteer to be hosts?

A.No, there are no restrictions or interviews etc. All we ask is that you pay your membership fee that covers the clubs expenses (we do not make a profit).

Q.I would like to join after initially finding out how you can assist me as someone who is going to start travelling overseas for the first time.

A.The club is here to help you and put you in touch with other members who can give advice and assistance.

A.The Globetrotters Club is the place for you then. We have just started a members email list/forum where members can request advice and share information .

A.You can contact other members in the area of interest or contact members who have been there recently for advice and assistance, etc.

Q.Locations of clubs in USA

A.There are branches in New York, Texas and soon we hope Southern California.

Q.Are there trips organised?

A.No, the club does not organise trips or tours, members may arrange to travel together but the club does not organise these.

Q.Are there many senior members of the club?

A.Yes, we cover all ages, young and old.

A.We would love to have one, we do have people interested in forming branches, but so far nothing has come of it.

Q.Why does info by post take so long .

A.Information sent by post, can take a while depending where you are in the world. We send most of our mail using a bulk mail processor, (cheaper than the post office), so we need to have an economic quantity to send, also we are limited by the number of sample Globes we have available to send, sometimes will be forced to wait until the next Globe print run before we can send mail out.

Q.Total number of members in club

A.membership has peaked at over 1000 but it is around 500 at present.

Q.Willingness to publish travel stories in Globe? of what length? on any topic? on remote islands? on cruises–luxury? on cruises–sailing?

A.We are very happy to publish members stories in Globe, it’s a members magazine/newsletter and the members make it what it is. Between 500 and 1000 words are best but if it’s something longer then we may run it over a few issues, any travel related topic is acceptable, if you have pictures as well we can include these. You can get further information from the editor.

Q.I would like information about travelling and travelling alone. I would also like to contact people who have travelled to Mexico or others that are planning to go.
